The South Florida Youth Symphony, one of the nation’s leading youth music organizations, will bring their talents to Sunny Isles Beach with a free holiday concert, “Holiday in the Park,” on Dec. 12, at the Gateway Park Amphitheater, 151 Sunny Isles Blvd.
The concert, sponsored by the City of Sunny Isles Beach, begins at 6 p.m. and, because of the outdoor venue, masks are optional.
“Holiday in the Park” will feature two outstanding solo performers, world-renown Montreal soprano Kimy McLaren, well-known local soprano Leticia Jack, and all levels of the South Florida Youth Symphony’s award-winning program.
“Our two soloists are simply outstanding, and the audience will love them,” said Marjorie Hahn, SFYS executive and music director. “In addition, we’ll be performing a wide variety of pieces featuring something for everyone’s taste.”
Now in its 57th consecutive year, the SFYS has performed world-wide over the last five decades. In recent years, they’ve won a Gold Medal at the prestigious Heritage Music Festival in Washington, DC; in 2017, performed at Carnegie Hall in 2018, and captured Gold at the Young Bohemia 2019 Music Festival in Prague, Czech Republic. When the COVID-19 pandemic forced the talented young musicians to practice via Zoom and perform virtual concerts, they captured a prestigious Suncoast Emmy for their third online concert.
The SFYS program is sponsored with the support of Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Miami-Dade County Mayor and County Commissioners, The Children’s Trust (through public referendum improving the lives of families and children making strategic investments in their future), Miami-Dade County Office of Management and Budget, State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, The Kirk Foundation, Publix Charities and Nancy Friday Foundation.
