One of the students from St. Theresa School — Ryan Hidalgo, seventh grade — qualified for the National Geographic State of Florida competition.
“We had a total of 10 students that qualified for our Geography Bee,” said Carolina Vizcaino, sixth grade language arts teacher. “Ryan was our top winner. He went on to take the state qualifying test in February and we were notified that he qualified and will be going to the state competition on Mar. 31. We are so proud of Ryan, and all of our students who took the time to concentrate on this event.”
Ryan competed in the second level of the National Geographic Bee competition, which is now in its 29th year. School Bees were conducted in schools with fourth through eighth grade students throughout the state of Florida to determine each school champion. School champions then took a qualifying test, and the National Geographic Society invited up to 100 of the top-scoring students in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense Dependents Schools and the U.S. territories to compete in the State Bees.
Daniel Vilella, fourth grader, took second place, and fifth grade student Andrea Hartman finished in third place.
