Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava recently announced the appointment of Stacy Miller as the new director of the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW).

Miller joins the county from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) where she currently serves as the District Six Secretary, overseeing the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of the State Highway System in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.

A highly respected transportation leader, Miller has successfully guided projects serving nearly three million residents and managing roadways traveled more than 30.8 million miles daily. She also has played a pivotal role in FDOT’s collaboration with DTPW’s Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit (SMART) Program, aimed at enhancing and expanding Miami-Dade’s public transit infrastructure.

“I am thrilled to welcome Stacy Miller to Miami-Dade County,” Mayor Levine Cava said. “I am confident that under her leadership, DTPW will accelerate critical transit and public works projects, as we advance DTPW’s $6.4 billion capital program and continue to build a transportation system that better connects residents in all corners of our county to opportunity.”

With more than three decades of experience in transportation, Miller began her career at FDOT District Four in 1991 as a professional engineer trainee. She progressed through various leadership roles, including serving as Florida’s first program management engineer, District Four director of Transportation Development, and assistant secretary of Finance and Administration for FDOT statewide. In 2021, she was appointed District Six secretary, overseeing key transportation initiatives across South Florida. Miller holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida and is a registered Professional Engineer in Florida.

“It is an honor to join Miami-Dade County and continue building the transportation system Miami-Dade residents need and deserve,” Miller said. “As the largest county in Florida and one of the fastest growing transit systems in the nation, Miami-Dade County has the opportunity to transform mobility for millions of residents and visitors for generations to come.”

Josiel Ferrer-Diaz, who served as the department’s interim director since late last year, will continue to lead within DTPW as a deputy director, and Sean Adgerson will continue his role as deputy director overseeing transit operations.
