In a major win for public access and local service, Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez has secured approval for an agreement to bring the first-ever full-service Tax Collector Office to the City of Miami Beach—including services for Driver Licenses and Identification Cards.
Earlier today, the Miami Beach City Commission voted unanimously to authorize the Miami Beach Redevelopment Agency (RDA) to finalize negotiations on a lease of approximately 4,000 square feet of prime retail space at the Anchor Shops and Garage (100 16th Street) to the Office of the Tax Collector.
The item, sponsored by Commissioner Alex Fernandez, and co-prime sponsored by Mayor Steven Meiner, marks a transformative step in making local government more accessible.
For the first time, Miami Beach residents will no longer need to travel across the causeway to pay property taxes, renew vehicle registrations, apply for a driver license, or obtain an ID. The new location—in the heart of the Miami Beach business district—will deliver critical services just steps from where people live and work.
“This office was long overdue in the Miami Beach area,” said Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernández. “For years, residents had to travel long distances to handle real estate transactions or get a driver license. Thanks to the leadership of Commissioner Alex Fernandez, Mayor Steven Meiner, and the entire City Commission, we’re finally bringing government closer to the people. I’m grateful to everyone who helped make this happen.”
Commissioners hailed the move as a milestone for public service and accessibility.
“We’re talking about nearly 4,000 square feet of prime space where people can renew licenses, pay taxes, and register vehicles—without leaving the island,” said Commissioner Alex Fernandez. “This is a big win for our residents. Thank you to the Tax Collector and his team.”
The Miami Beach Tax Collector Office will become the first full-service branch east of Biscayne Bay and one of several new offices opened under the leadership of Tax Collector Dariel Fernández—a testament to his administration’s commitment to expanding access to essential services across Miami-Dade County.
