The Caring Place hosts ‘Back-to-School Bash’

The Caring Place at Miami Rescue Mission/Broward Outreach Centers hosted its annual “Back-to-School Bash” on Saturday, Aug. 1, blessing the community with a large-scale school supply giveaway that served over 1,500 at-risk children and 500 families.
Too many low-income families in the community are struggling to provide the school supplies their children need. For the hundreds of children served a backpack, new shoes, and basic supplies can mean the difference between starting school with confidence or falling behind before the first day even begins.
With the help of community supporters, the organization helps children excel in the classroom with all the supplies they need to have a head start for their studies. Planning to help families, students and teachers, organizers began collecting materials for the Back to School Bash in June.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of community partners and supporters, children received new backpacks filled with school supplies, new sneakers, tee shirts, and hygiene items. Families were warmly welcomed by volunteers, walked through tables filled with essential back-to-school items, and even were offered cold water while waiting in the summer heat. Additional blessings for families were boxes of soda, bags of food and antiseptic wipes.
“This came at the perfect time for our family,” said Jessica, one of the event attendees. “We couldn’t afford everything our kids needed for school, and seeing how excited they are for their new backpacks and shoes means so much. Thank you to The Caring Place and everyone who made this happen. Your kindness is a real blessing for our family.”
The initiative was supported by Best Roofing and many other generous individuals. Jared Crespo donated bags of food for all the families in attendance. A special thank you to St. Gregory the Great which donates back to school materials at the start of each school year.
The Caring Place knows that when children don’t have clean clothes, proper shoes, or basic school supplies, it can affect their confidence and their ability to learn. That is why events like this provide more than just the essentials-they give children hope, restore dignity, and help them start the school year with confidence.
