THE CLERK’S OFFICE: WHAT WE DO AND WHY IT MATTERS

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
Juan Fernandez-Barquin

I am often asked, “What exactly does the Clerk of the Court and Comptroller of Miami-Dade  County do?”

My office wears two hats and handles two critical functions. First, I serve as the administrative arm  of the 11th Judicial Circuit Court, the fourth largest circuit in the nation. Secondly, I am the  custodian of records and watchdog of Miami-Dade County funds.

Finally, contrary to popular belief, neither I nor anyone in my office issues traffic or parking  tickets—we solely administer the payments on behalf of the issuing agencies in our community. I believe it’s important to communicate the roles and responsibilities that my office oversees to  empower our community when seeking assistance. The following departments and divisions fall  under my roles and responsibilities as set forth in Florida’s Constitution.

  • Traffic and Parking Services
  • Juvenile Cases
  • Civil Cases
  • Criminal, Felony, and Misdemeanor  Cases
  • Foreclosures and Tax Deeds
  • Family and Probate Cases
  • Mental Health Cases
  • Domestic Violence Cases
  • Jury Duty Servies
  • Legal Support
  • Marriage Licenses
  • Central Depository
  • Clerk of the Board
  • Procurement
  • Couty Recorder
  • Value Adjustment Board
  • Code Enforcement Collections
  • Records Management
  • Technical Services
  • Budget Team
  • Human Resources
  • Clerk of the Court Finances
  • Miami-Dade County Finances
  • Audit Services

Throughout the year, I will be elaborating on what my team and I do to better equip and empower  our residents. I look forward to connecting with our residents, as I am committed to expanding our  reach in the community through collaboration with our elected officials and community groups to  bring our services directly to you.

I am dedicated to blending technological innovation with a focus on accessibility and community  engagement to ensure that Miami-Dade County residents have a trusted and efficient resource.
