As Clerk of the Board (COB), my team and I are responsible for providing administrative support to the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners (BCC). Our office serves as an independent entity that ensures impartiality in county government operations while guaranteeing that you, our residents, receive full and accurate information.
At the heart of its mission, the COB manages the official records of the BCC and various committees, recording and maintaining minutes while ensuring accurate documentation of legislative actions. We ensure the public has access to information regarding Board actions, including legislative items, resolutions, and ordinances – making government transparency a reality for Miami-Dade residents. During Board meetings, we perform essential administrative and procedural functions including calling roll, announcing quorum status, tallying votes, and administering oaths. We also prepare legal notices in compliance with all statutory requirements.
Our office facilitates civic engagement by managing the registration system for over 1,500 lobbyists and coordinating the nomination and appointment process for the County’s 97 active advisory boards. Beyond the Board meetings, our office serves as the gateway for citizen-led democratic actions, processing initiatives, referendums, and recall petitions that allow residents to directly influence local governance.
We support Miami-Dade County in the competitive bidding process by coordinating receipt of bids, attending public bid openings, and handling bid protests and hearings. As official custodian of County Commission records, we ensure preservation of Miami-Dade’s legislative history and implementation of Board actions, serving the public, legal professionals, and policymakers alike.
The COB also manages specialized licensing, from Home Solicitor permits to palmistry business applications, demonstrating the diverse regulatory oversight required in Miami-Dade. We handle claims filed against the County, coordinate annual reporting requirements, oversee financial disclosure compliance, and handle various statutory certifications.
Through accuracy, accessibility, and integrity, my COB team strengthens Miami-Dade’s democratic process while ensuring effective county government operations.
