The Flower Place Miami Introduces Affordable Wedding Florals to SoFlo

Nestled in the heart of North Bay Village, The Flower Place Miami is a family-run flower shop led by Lillian Ratliff. As the new leader and brains of the business, Ratliff has done more than bring new life to the 27-year-old flower company. She has introduced affordable wedding flowers to South Florida.

According to The Knot Real Weddings Study released in February of this year, the average cost of wedding flowers in 2023 was $2,800, which didn’t include the centerpieces, floral installations, bridal bouquet and all the other elements needed to make a dream wedding come to life. Since then, there has been a steady increase in the cost of flowers for weddings, and with this continuing shock of inflation, there’s no sign of it slowing down yet.

A bride once herself, who is celebrating her 3rd wedding anniversary in December, Ratliff wanted to do more for South Florida couples looking for a DIY and budget-friendly wedding. She introduced The Designer’s Choice package, priced at $600, and A La Carte options, which eliminate the stress of having a florist on the wedding day and, most importantly, save a couple of thousand dollars on set-up. This unique package includes ten elegant centerpieces, floral personals and petals, all based on the color scheme and aesthetic of the couple’s wedding.

How does The Flower Place provide such affordable florals? Ratliff explained, “Through the reputation and relationships my family has built with international flower distributors. We’ve known each other for years, and we all have the same goal: to make sure our flowers get into someone’s home or wedding and never have a chance to go bad.”

The walk-in shop also gives customers a full shopping experience where they can choose their flowers from a chilled cooler. Once chosen, Ratliff can create any type of bouquet. The Flower Place also offers monthly ticketed workshops, called “Snip & Sip,” where Ratliff walks her students through a flower arranging class for different occasions such as hostess dinners, International Friendship Day and more. It’s a “Bring Your Own Beverage” workshop, similar to Painting with a Twist. This came about from the need of their customers wanting to learn how to create different types of arrangements at home.

“We’re really a one-stop shop place that provides floral community support,” said Lillian Ratliff, Co-Owner of The Flower Place Miami.
