The GMC Yukon AT4 is built to easily take on the off-road experience while maintaining a feeling of sophistication in the interior that is reinforced by its superior technology.

As it raises the bar on the combination of premium amenities and rugged character, the experience makes the first Yukon AT4 truly unique in its class. Fortunately for the buyer, the AT4 trim is available for both the Yukon and the Yukon XL.

Inside and out, Yukon AT4 expresses confidence and athleticism.

On the outside, it features a front fascia with a grille in a dark chrome finish and a gloss black front bumper. Not only does it look great, but also the unique front end is designed specifically for a more desirable, 32-degree front approach angle when climbing steep grades.

Other standout features in the front are the horizontal torch-red recovery hooks, the skid plate and the updated signature C-shaped LED headlamps, which have a unique laser-etched texture. The details in this package play off of the intensity with black roof rails and the assist steps, which make it feel like a workman’s off-road beast.

The tires only add to this vehicle’s appeal. This SUV comes with 20-inch six-spoke machined-aluminum wheels with Carbon Gray Metallic accents and 20-inch Goodyear all-terrain tires for improved traction when driving off-road.

On the inside, Yukon AT4’s sporty interior features dark, brushed aluminum accents and premium materials. There is the available 15-inch diagonal multicolor head-up display, with key data projected on the windshield that can be customized.

The standard perforated leather-appointed seating in the first and second rows have brandy accent stitching and color-coordinated cutouts, as well as AT4-logo-embroidered head restraints. The steering wheel, first-row buckets, standard second-row power release bench and available second-row bucket outboard seats are all heated.

A nice feature is the sliding center console: By pressing and holding down a switch, the console slides back up to 10 inches, which makes it easier for passengers in the back to access and view all controls.

Roomier than previous Yukon models, the spacious interior also gives you ample space to carry cargo, like luggage or outdoor sporting equipment. Like other models, the cargo hold can even be expanded via the third-row power-folding bench seat, which easily folds flat to create lots more space.

Starting at $65,000, the Yukon AT4 gets 16 miles in the city and 20 on the highway.

The standard 5.3L EcoTec V8 engine (355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque) is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission that offers smooth power delivery in a variety of driving situations. AT4’s AutoTrac 2-speed transfer case with low-range gearing helps provide additional torque for powering up steep obstacles.

The all-new available Active Response 4WD System also gives you greater confidence in slick or off-road conditions. The system is fully integrated into Yukon AT4, so it automatically and seamlessly detects the wheels with most grip and then sends the torque to where you need it. That’s a big deal because in some vehicles the power is all over the place when you need it most.

You also have the ability to choose your ride height by up to 2 inches and the bottom has skid plates to protect important parts from rocks and other potential issues.

All-in-all, I cannot say enough good things about the GMC Yukon AT4. Whether you are in the Everglades or riding between Home Depot and the kids sporting commitments, the GMC Yukon AT4 delivers a combination of sporty luxury that feels like home.
