A NEWS RELEASE FROM THE HONORABLE SCHOOL BOARD CHAIR AND DISTRICT 6 REPRESENTATIVE MS. MARI TERE ROJAS
The Honorable School Board Chair and District 6 Representative Mari Tere Rojas was honored this afternoon by the South Florida Council (Scouting America) with the 2025 Educator of the Year Award, recognizing outstanding leadership, service, and a longstanding commitment to public education and youth development.
In her remarks accepting the award, Board Chair Rojas expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized that the honor reflects the collective efforts of educators, students, families, and community partners throughout the district. She also congratulated Mr. Fernando Valle of the law firm Colodny Fass, on his recognition as a Young Professionals Award recipient, commending his leadership and contribution to the community.
“This recognition renews my commitment to ensuring that every student in our district has access to the tools, opportunities, and support they need to thrive,” said Board Chair Rojas. “Leadership is not about titles—it is about service, impact, and the lives we touch.”
Board Chair Rojas thanked President and Chair of the South Florida Council, Mr. Alejandro Mendieta, as well as Mr. Jeff Berger, CEO, members of the South Florida Council, along with its dedicated volunteers. She highlighted the many years of partnership between Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) and Scouting America, noting their shared mission of uplifting the next generation through education, mentorship, and character development.
“For many years, Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Scouting America have walked this path together, united by a powerful goal: preparing young people to lead with integrity, service, and purpose,” Board Chair Rojas said.
Reflecting on decades of service as an educator and public servant, Board Chair Rojas reaffirmed an unwavering commitment to student success, safety, academic rigor, mental health, and career readiness.
Board Chair Rojas concluded by thanking her esteemed fellow colleagues on the School Board, Superintendent, teachers, principals, region and district administrators, and all members of the workforce, as well as our parents and community partners for their continued collaboration and shared investment in our students.
“There is no greater return on investment than investing together in our children—educating, mentoring, and supporting them as they become leaders of character,” said Board Chair Rojas. “The values of Scouting and the power of education continue to light the way for our leaders of tomorrow.”
