The Miami Book Fair will host Emmy Award-winning journalist Jorge Ramos in partnership with Books & Books at Miami Dade College on Friday, Mar. 23, as part of his promotional tour for the release of his upcoming book, STRANGER: The Challenge of a Latino Immigrant in the Trump Era, now on sale as a Vintage Books Trade Paperback Original.
Named one of the “World’s 50 Greatest Leaders” in 2016 by Fortune magazine and largely considered the most influential journalist in the Latino community, Jorge Ramos recounts his personal experience as an immigrant from Mexico — fulfilling his “American Dream” of becoming a U.S. citizen, raising his two American-born children, and rising professionally as an Emmy award-winning journalist — while also examining why he (and others) still feel like strangers in Trump’s America.
The event takes place at 7:30 p.m. in Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus Auditorium, Building 1, Second Floor, 300 NE Second Ave.

Jorge Ramos is an Emmy Award-winning journalist, syndicated columnist, and author of nine previous books. Hailed by Time magazine as one of “the 25 most influential Hispanics in the United States,” Ramos has been the anchorman for Noticiero Univision since 1986. He also is the host of America with Jorge Ramos, a weekly show and Al Punto, a Sunday morning public affairs show, both on Fusion.
In 2017, he was presented the Walter Cronkite Award in the U.S. and the Gabriel Garcia Marquez prize in Colombia for his excellence in journalism.
In his book Ramos says, “There are times when I feel like a stranger in this country. I am not complaining and it’s not for lack of opportunity. But it is something of a disappointment. I never would have imagined that after having spent 35 years in the United States I would still be a stranger to so many. But that’s how it is.”
Ramos, Univision’s longtime anchorman and widely considered the “voice of the voiceless” within the Latino community, was forcefully removed from an Iowa press conference in 2015 by then-candidate Donald Trump after trying to ask about his plans on immigration.
In this personal manifesto, Ramos sets out to examine what it means to be a Latino immigrant, or just an immigrant, in present-day America. With current research and statistics, a journalist nose for a story, and his own personal experience, Ramos shows us the changing face of America while trying to find an explanation for why he, and millions of others, still feel like strangers in this country.
