Loesser, Swerling, and Burrows’ Guys and Dolls
MIAMI, Fl – The Miami Dade College Wolfson Opera Ensemble is putting on a lovely production of Guys and Dolls, a musical plot based on “The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown”. Directed by the Director of Vocal Studies, Amy Ibberson, with musical direction by Dr. Alan Ngim, and choreography by Lee Pugh, this show will feature the students of the Miami Dade College Wolfson Opera Ensemble. This fantastic musical spectacular will be presented on Thursday, April 14, 2011, and Friday, April 15, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. at Miami Dade College, Wolfson Campus Auditorium, 300 N.E. 2nd Ave, Building 1, Room 1261.
Guys and Dolls is a hit musical production with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Sweling and Abe Burrows. The musical is based on “The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown”, set in the 1950’s on Broadway Street in New York City. In a city full of sinners, such as gamblers, alcoholics, and materialistic-driven lifestyles, Broadway Street is on track of becoming one of the most sinful cities yet. Sergeant Sarah Brown’s intentions of converting Broadway’s sinners into missionaries is just one of the biggest gambles she has yet to face.
The Guys and Dolls plot themes include the underlying theme of the roles of men and women in the 1950’s, as well as their romantic relationships and struggles. In such roaring times, one must determine which lifestyle one should practice, in order of achieving and gaining true happiness with love and laughter.
Tickets for all performances are $10 for general admission and $5 for MDC students, faculty, and staff, with a Miami Dade ID. Seating is limited. Tickets can be bought by e-mailing your name, date of show you would like to attend, and number of tickets to: aibberso@mdc.edu. Please keep in mind that you will have to pick up your tickets in the student music offices in Building 3, 4th floor in 3418-11 or 3418-12. In addition, tickets may be bought by contacting any Wolfson Opera Ensemble student, or on the day of the show. We encourage that you pre-order your tickets.
The Miami Dade College Wolfson Opera Ensemble is an intensive program, dedicated in helping young students who are interested in pursuing a career in musical, operatic, and theatrical performances. By taking classes in all major music performance and education areas, the program is created in order to expand students’ skills and level of stage experience; thus, giving each student the necessary skills in order to become a successful music leader in today’s music industry.
