The Miami Marlins (1-4) suffered a painful defeat in their recent game against the Minnesota Twins (4-0), losing 11-1 in a game that saw the Marlins struggle to keep up with their opponents.
After a 3-1 series loss to the New York Mets, the Marlins were looking to bounce back with a home game against the undefeated Minnesota Twins. However, the Twins got off to a blistering start with Max Kepler sending a homerun to right-center field on the very first pitch of the game, setting the tone for what was to come.
Things went from bad to worse for the Marlins in the second inning when Joey Gallo hit a three-run home run to right field, giving the Twins an early 4-0 lead. The Marlins simply could not catch a break, and the Twins continued to dominate, eventually taking an 8-0 lead in the 4th inning.
The Marlins finally got on the scoreboard when Luis Arráez sent the ball out to right-center field, driving in Bryan De La Cruz. But it was too little, too late as the Twins continued to pile on the runs, with Trevor Larnach hitting a two-run home run to center field and Ryan Jeffers adding another homer on a fly ball to left-center field. The final score was 11-1 in favor of the Twins.
On the pitching front, Johnny Cueto’s debut for the season was cut short as he experienced right biceps tightness during an at-bat with Christian Vazquez in the second inning. Jeff Lindgren pitched for most of the game, giving up four hits, four runs, and four walks over five innings. The only strikeouts for the Marlins came from JT Chargois with two and Andrew Nardi with one.
On the other hand, Tyler Mahle for the Twins threw for five innings and allowed five hits, one run, and one walk with seven strikeouts while Jorge Alcala followed up with three strikeouts of his own.
The Marlins will look to rebound in the win column tonight with Sandy Alcántara pitching. After a disappointing loss, the Marlins need to come back strong to get their season back on track
