This year’s runway will feature 25 models rocking the latest trends in textiles, wall coverings, flooring, tiles, etc.

South Florida’s design community will travel back to the infamous 18th Century circus era by attending this year’s Design Mix presented by The International Interior Designer Association (IIDA) South Florida Chapter.

“Peculiarium” will welcome the normal, the non-normal, the odd and the peculiar on Saturday, Mar. 30, starting at 6 p.m. The event take place at Park Place at The Miami Scottish Rite, 471 NW Third St.

IIDA South Florida Chapter advocates for advancements in education, design excellence, legislation, leadership, accreditation and community outreach to increase the value and understanding of Interior Design as a profession.

Design Mix is the organization’s signature event which raises funds to award scholarships to exemplary interior design students, legislation advocacy efforts, and continuing educational support to their practicing professionals. The focus of the event is to pair industry members with design firms in a joint mission to fabricate wearable garments made entirely out of interior finish materials provided by event sponsors.

This year’s runway show will begin at 7:30 p.m. and feature 25 models rocking the latest trends in textiles, wall coverings, flooring, tiles, etc. All garments will be reviewed and scored by non-industry guest judges who will present awards in various categories at the end of the fashion show.

Peculiarium-Design’s Greatest Show will feature mystical creatures of the unknown and creatures that will seem peculiar to the average human eye.

The emcee for the evening is one of South Florida’s most coveted drag queens, Athena Dion (Instagram: @AthenaDion), who recently appeared on MTV’s new hit series Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club. During this year’s event, guests will enjoy live entertainment, specialty cocktails, light bites and a sponsored photo booth.

The event chairs for Design Mix 2019 are IIDA members Janelle Arauz and Jason Valentin.

All guests are encouraged to let their imaginations take over at Peculiarium by dressing in accordance to the evening’s dress code: vintage English couture. Ticket prices start at $35 for students, up to $95 for non-members.
