TNT4KIDS will participate in an outreach event for the unhoused community on December 17th, from 10-3 pm EST, at the historic Greater Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Overtown.

Sponsored by Larkin Community Hospital and The Greater Bethel AME Church, the outreach event will build on the success of a Thanksgiving Feast & Eyewear for the Homeless held on November 19th, that served  meals, health checks, and clothes to local unhoused persons.

Along with the Emmaus Brotherhood, a Catholic service-oriented lay fellowship, and Peace Place Recovery, a provider of sober living homes, TNT4KIDS will offer hands-on support at the December 17 event.  In additio, TNT4KIDS will be donating and raffling high-value art prints and paintings to help fund future community efforts.  At the same time, TNT4KIDS will be collecting toys, in-kind goods and donations online or in person.

TNT4KIDS launched in April 2017, when it planted three native allspice trees at William Kerdyk Family Park in Coral Gables with local students. As co-founder and nursery owner Richard Namon said, “The idea is for people to establish personal relations with nature by talking to the trees.”

Since then, TNT4KIDS has handed out small trees on Halloween while advocating for the benefits of trees and greenspace on the mental health of children through mindfulness practices like “talking to trees.” TNT4KIDS also sells donated art as a part of ART 4 Parks mission to support its tree planting endeavors.

Organizers for the AME Church homeless outreach event continue to look for clothing donations, financial support, and day-of volunteers to assist with services at the event. Those interested should contact Dr. Katrynna Navarro, knavarro@larkinhospital.com
