TotalBank kicked off its annual fundraiser for Castaways Against Cancer, which supports the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Luis de la Aguilera, president and CEO of TotalBank, for the third year in a row is participating as a kayaker.
Last year, de la Aguilera was the top individual fundraiser for any Relay for Life event nationwide and Castaways Against Cancer (CAC) was ranked the No. 1 Relay for Life Team in Florida. TotalBank raised more than $86,000, bringing the Castaways’ fundraising total for 2014 to $135,324 during “The Don’t Stop the Carnival Tour.”
This year, CAC launches its 16th annual tour on June 6 named “East of Midnight” from Key Biscayne. “Every day we are reminded as to why we paddle. Until cancer is eradicated, we will keep on fighting to find a cure,” de la Aguilera said.
Through de la Aguilera’s efforts, this has become TotalBank’s signature community event, and has rallied management and staff alike to participate in everything from garage and bake sales to selling homemade crafts in an effort to raise money for the cause. In addition, this year de la Aguilera is kayaking in memory of City of Miami firefighter Rafael Garcia.
