Veteran Trial Attorney Peter K. Spillis

Freedland Harwin Valori Gander, PLLC, a leading South Florida personal injury and medical malpractice law firm, announced that Peter K. Spillis has joined the firm as a partner. He will work out of the firm’s Fort Lauderdale and Miami offices and the firm will now be known as Freedland Harwin Valori Gander & Spillis, PLLC.

A veteran trial lawyer with more than 25 years of experience, Spillis most recently served as managing partner at Fort Lauderdale-based Kelley|Uustal, where he spent the past 11 years handling significant cases involving medical malpractice, personal injury, product liability and commercial litigation. Over the course of his career, he has tried more than 40 cases to verdict and earned a reputation as a strategic, skilled advocate for seriously injured clients and their families.
“Dan Harwin and I have been friends for 20 years, and this opportunity came at just the right time,” said Spillis. “Our values are aligned, and I’m excited to join a team that shares my passion for helping people through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Freedland Harwin Valori Gander has handled several significant cases over the years and has an incredibly talented roster of attorneys. I look forward to working with them in this next chapter of my career.”
Spillis began his legal career at one of Florida’s top defense firms, where he tried his first jury trial just one year out of law school. He later served as managing partner of the Miami office of a national litigation firm, where he led the office’s construction litigation department in addition to handling high-stakes catastrophic injury cases. In 2014, he shifted his practice to focus fully on plaintiff-side work to fight for the rights of injured individuals.
“We are thrilled to welcome Peter to our firm,” said founding partner Daniel Harwin. “Peter is an exceptional trial lawyer who brings decades of experience handling complex, high-stakes cases. His addition significantly deepens our bench of top-tier legal talent, especially in the areas of medical malpractice and catastrophic injury. I have always admired Peter’s work ethic, professionalism and unwavering commitment to his clients and believe he is a perfect fit for our team.”
Spillis earned his law degree from the University of Miami and his undergraduate degree from Texas Christian University. He is a past president of the Miami chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), a national invitation-only organization of experienced trial lawyers and judges dedicated to preserving the right to a jury trial. He is one of three attorneys at the firm who have served as presidents of local ABOTA chapters, alongside Daniel Harwin and Deborah Gander, underscoring the firm’s depth of seasoned litigators and leaders in the trial bar.
