When Miami-Dade County residents elect a commissioner, they are not looking for another politician. They are looking for someone who will show up, speak up and fight for them. That is why Vicki Lopez has earned our support for Miami-Dade County Commission, District 5.

Lopez has demonstrated that she understands what public service is supposed to be about. It is about neighborhoods. It is about families. It is about making sure taxpayers get the services they deserve and that county government remains accountable to the people paying the bills. She has never been afraid to get into the middle of complicated issues, ask uncomfortable questions and push for answers.

And that matters in Miami-Dade.

This is a county facing enormous challenges. Traffic continues to consume too much of our time. Infrastructure needs attention. Housing remains a major concern. Public safety cannot be taken for granted. And county government operates with a multibillion-dollar budget. With that much taxpayer money on the table, we need commissioners who understand that every dollar matters.

Lopez understands it.

She has built a record of being engaged, accessible and willing to fight for her district. She doesn’t wait for problems to disappear. She gets involved. She listens to residents. She works with community leaders. And when something needs to be fixed, she pushes to get it fixed.

That is the kind of commissioner we want.

We also respect Lopez because she is willing to stand her ground. Government is not always easy, and representing a community means making decisions that will not make everyone happy. The easy thing is to stay quiet. The easy thing is to go along. Lopez has shown she is willing to do the harder thing — fight for what she believes is right for the people she represents.

That is leadership.

District 5 needs someone who understands that the job does not end when the Commission meeting ends. The job continues in the neighborhoods, in conversations with residents, in dealing with county departments and in demanding that government follow through on its promises.

Vicki Lopez gets that.

Miami-Dade is changing rapidly, and the decisions being made today will affect this community for years to come. We need elected officials who are serious about the future, serious about accountability and serious about protecting the quality of life that makes Miami-Dade such a special place to live.

Vicki Lopez is that kind of public servant.

She has earned our confidence because she has earned it the old-fashioned way — by doing the work.

For District 5, this is an easy call.

Miami Community Newspapers strongly supports and endorses Vicki L. Lopez for Miami-Dade County Commission, District 5.

We believe she has the experience, determination and backbone to keep fighting for her constituents and for the future of Miami-Dade County.

Vicki Lopez has earned our support. Now we are giving it to her — loud and clear.
