On a picture perfect Saturday morning, thousands gathered for the 2012 Heart Walk at Florida International University’s Maidique Campus.
Miami’s Community Newspapers was happy to gather several non-profit groups under its umbrella to help raise funds for the American Heart Association at the Oct. 6 event. From the members of the GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club, Doral Business Council, the Miami Christian School Beta Club and its Middle School to Gulliver Schools, the volunteers were plenty for the CN team alone not to mention the many students from the area schools helping from the early morning hours.

All were delighted to learn that this 2012 Heart Walk, chaired by Ernie Diaz of TD Bank raised half a million dollars for the organization.
Among the many enjoying and volunteering the day at the Community Newspapers tent were Debi Moore, Norris Perez, Ana Hedman, Theresa Gonzalez, Allison Bean, Chris Rosillo, Chrissy and Elizabeth Rosillo, Paula Franco, Susan Machado, and Ernie Angueira.
Also enjoying a morning outdoors, the Brickell Rotarians recently held a “weeding” party to beautify the grounds of Carver Elementary School and prepare a concrete slab construction for another picnic area. After enjoying a light breakfast at Carver, volunteers with gloves in hand and hats on heads, worked for several hours before calling it a day and enjoyed a lunch provided by the school’s PTA.
