A new task force report from the World Conference on Transport Research Society (WCTRS) is shining a spotlight on the most efficient subway systems in Asia, Europe, and North America.

Miami-Dade Transit has been recognized as part of this report, which is based on a productivity measurement and benchmarking study that identifies cities leading the way in efficient and cost-effective urban transport.

“I am very proud of the extraordinary work we are doing to improve our transit system, to make Miami-Dade a well-connected and future-ready community,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Miami-Dade is a world class community, and we will continue improving our services and infrastructure to give our residents and visitors the world class transit system they deserve. This recognition validates our accomplishments and confirms that we’re on the right path.”

The Task Force identified the subway systems with the highest productivity growth rates during the study sample period from 2015 to 2019. The cities with the highest productivity improvement rates are Changsha (China), Osaka (Japan), Daejeon (South Korea), Lisbon (Europe), and Miami-Dade (North America).

This recognition comes just as Metrorail returns to pre-pandemic ridership levels after experiencing an unavoidable decline during the pandemic. Metrobus ridership also has returned to more than 90 percent of pre-pandemic levels. Both transit services are on an upward trend, as the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) strives to improve service and innovate solutions every day.

“We appreciate this recognition which truly validates the hard work of our employees to deliver service excellence every day,” said Eulois Cleckley, director and CEO of the Department of Transportation and Public Works. “We also know that we have more work ahead to reach our lofty vision of becoming the world’s best provider of safe, clean, efficient and connected transportation options.”
