Ultimate Miami LLC, creator of Miami’s talent competitions showcasing local rising stars in the fields of mixology, entertainment and culinary arts, will present Grammy-nominated pop trio Wilson Phillips on Saturday, Mar. 2, 9 p.m., at Magic City Casino in Stage 305.
The concert will be presented as part of the Ultimate Miami Voice finals competition where participants will compete for a cash prize of $5,000 and the title of the Ultimate Miami Voice.
“We look forward to the performance by the talented Wilson Phillips,” said Scott Savin, chief operating officer of Magic City Casino.
“Wilson Phillips’ signature sound propelled them to the top of the charts. It will be an honor for the Ultimate Miami Voice finalists to perform on the same stage as these gifted vocalists.” Wilson Phillips will perform immediately following the first round of competition. The band currently is on tour celebrating their 20th anniversary and promoting their newest album, Dedicated.
In 1990 the group received critical acclaim when they won the Billboard Music Award for “Hot 100 Single of the Year” for their hit, Hold On. The band became the best-selling female group of all time for a single album when it sold over 10 million copies of their self-titled album in 1992 and has been nominated for four Grammy Awards and two American Music Awards. The trio, consisting of Carnie Wilson, Wendy Wilson and Chynna Phillips, produced three number one singles (Hold On, Release Me and You’re In Love) that reached the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Aspiring singers competed for their chance to participate in the Ultimate Miami Voice competition at qualifying karaoke events through Feb. 7. Participating venues included Magic City Casino and Tom’s NFL Sports Bar and Grill. Singers who won first place at one of the qualifying events earned $200 and the opportunity to compete at the Ultimate Miami Voice competition.
