John Bendoraitis, chief operating officer of Spirit Airlines, has been named to the YMCA of South Florida Board of Directors.

Bendoraitis has extensive operational experience in the airline industry. He has served as Spirit’s COO since 2013 and previously served in the same role at Frontier Airlines. He also served as president of Compass Airlines, where he was responsible for the certification and launch of the airline.

Bendoraitis began his aviation career in 1984 at Northwest Airlines, where over a 22-year span he rose from aircraft technician to vice president of base maintenance operations.

“We’re thrilled to welcome John to our board,” said Sheryl A. Woods, YMCA of South Florida president and CEO. “John’s operational experience, expertise and his commitment to our mission are a valuable asset to the Y.”

Bendoraitis earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Management from Metro State University in St. Paul, MN and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.
