The Miami-Dade County Youth Fair and Exposition has announced that Nelson C. Bellido, treasurer of its board of directors, has been appointed chair of the Miami- Dade Commission on Ethics and Public Trust.

Bellido, who is a partner with the law firm Concepción Martinez & Bellido, has a long history with the Youth Fair.

“I am proud to be selected to serve as chairman of the Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics and Public Trust,” Bellido said. “My commitment to serve our community stems from my early childhood involvement in such great organizations as the Youth Fair.

“From age 9, I was fortunate to enter projects in the Youth Fair’s agriculture and science divisions that enriched my childhood education. I am very thankful to the Youth Fair for providing me financial support in college and law school through its Scholarship Program,” Bellido said.

The Youth Fair awards more than $300,000 annually in college scholarships, cash premiums and awards to local public, private, charter and home school students. To date, the Youth Fair has awarded more than $10 million to Miami-Dade students to help them achieve higher education.

“Today, as a member of the board of directors, I am in the role to help children in our community and introduce them to the Youth Fair and all of its wonderful programming that makes it a special place and a true cornerstone of Miami-Dade County and the state of Florida,” Bellido said.

Bellido has served on the board of directors of the Youth Fair for seven years. He was appointed in 2010 to the Ethics Commission by the chief judge of the 11th Circuit Court. He succeeds Charlton Copeland, University of Miami law professor, who will continue to serve as a board member.

Bellido received his law degree from the University of Florida College of Law and his bachelor’s degree from Duke University, majoring in political science and history with emphasis on Latin American history.

He focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, insurance law, banking and finance law, and products liability. Bellido also serves as director of the Cuban American Bar Association and is chair of the Duke University Hispanic/Latino Alumni Association.
