Miami recently welcomed a new state-of-the-art fitness center that already has broken new ground on the international fitness scene.

The newly unveiled center, called City Zero Miami, is located at 591 SW Eighth St., and is developed by famed Colombian fitness figure Beto Perez.

Perez first became known for being the founder and face of Zumba Fitness, now active in over 180 countries. As with Perez himself, the theme of City Zero is oriented toward both fitness and dance. The venue’s layout is charged with a signature high-energy flair for the dramatic and perfectly suited to South Florida’s culture.

Yet the complex also stands out as a forward-thinking blueprint for a new kind of fitness experience of the future. In doing so, it brings together a hybrid of individual, group, and technologically integrated elements that are further elevated by design features unseen in standard gyms.

Its chic minimalist-industrial design walks a stark contrast between an edgy and refined aesthetic. This comes together to form a unique and invigorating atmosphere throughout the center that comes to life in several key design features. Standouts include sleek floor-to-ceiling glass windows, double-height ceilings adorned with a striking eight-foot chandelier, and illuminated concrete columns across both the interiors and the exterior of the center.

Visitors are greeted by dramatic lighting, mirrors, a high-tech dance stage platform, and an open-air rooftop on the fourth floor featuring vegetation and an uninterrupted view of Downtown Miami to crown the structure. Of course, beyond the gloss and electrifying ambience is the core of the experience: a wide range of the newest fitness equipment, full team of trainers, fitness gear retail shop, and juice bar to relax between regimens.

The grand opening was celebrated with a full slate of international fitness and design VIPs. On hand were members of the City Zero team including project architect Permuy Architecture, interior designers IA Interior Architects, luxury contractor Brodson Construction, and owners representative Padron Group.

They were joined by Venezuelan actress Maritza Bustamante; Colombian model Dani Ospina, Spanish dancer Toni Costa, and Cuban actress Aylin Mujica for the main event as well as a pre-event walkthrough with fitness gurus Jimmy and Michelle Lewin. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez also was present to perform the ribbon cutting with Perez.

Representing Permuy Architecture was firm president Ignacio Permuy who first became known for high-profile projects with Tibor Hollo’s FECR, Donald Soffer’s Turnberry Associates, and late Homestead Speedway developer Ralph Sanchez.

Speaking on the significance and impact of the now-open City Zero project, Permuy said, “As revolutionary as Zumba has been for the fitness world over the last 20 years, I honestly believe City Zero has the potential to be even bigger.”

Permuy added, “With City Zero Miami, Beto has laid the groundwork for a new kind of full-service, interactive fitness centers. Unlike any other gym, these centers can grow into community hubs in an unprecedented way and are built from the ground-up to define new trends in fitness, dance, and design. We’ve already seen this in action with the flagship location. It’s very exciting and it shows tremendous vision on Beto’s part for dreaming it.”
