Rudabeh Shahbazi, Emmy Award-winning anchor for CBS4, will be the emcee for the 38th Biscayne Bay Gala, Sept. 29, at the Hilton Miami Blue Lagoon Hotel, 5151 Blue Lagoon Dr.

The event, which is honoring Stanley Tate — founder of the Florida Prepaid College Program — as the Biscayne Bay Kiwanis Club’s Citizen of the Year, begins with a 6:30 p.m. cocktail reception and silent auction, followed by a dinner and live auction at 7:30 p.m.

“We are thrilled — and grateful — to have Rudabeh Shahbazi as our emcee,” said Biscayne Bay Kiwanis president Carmen Calzon.

“She is one of South Florida’s most respected and trusted journalists and her involvement with kids in the community makes her the ideal emcee for a Kiwanis gala.”

Shahbazi is a graduate of Pepperdine University and the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. As news anchor of the CBS4 News at 5, 5:30, 7 and 11 p.m., she was part of the team that was honored with an Emmy Award for coverage of the Pulse nightclub attack in Orlando. She also received Emmy Award nominations for her coverage of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport attack and President Obama’s visit to Cuba.

Named as one of eight Women of Influence who are “changing Miami for the better” by Ocean Drive Magazine, Shahbazi also is the face of the series “CBS4’s Mentoring Matters,” which focuses on inspirational South Floridians who make a difference in young people’s lives.

When she is not on the air, Shahbazi lends her time to numerous other charities and community events, including working as a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami.

“It’s an honor for me to serve as master of ceremonies of the 38th Biscayne Bay gala because this organization has a long history of community service,” Shahbazi said. “We in the media are well aware of their work with kids and families in the inner city. From their monthly readings with the kids at Frederick Douglass Elementary to their annual Thanksgiving food giveaway, the Biscayne Bay Kiwanis is a dedicated, involved organization.”

Tickets to the event — expected to be attended by more than 400 of South Florida’s business and community leaders — are $150 ($1,500 for a table of 10).
