The YWCA of Greater Miami-Dade is honoring Eileen Maloney-Simon for 20 years of service as the CEO of the YWCA.

Maloney-Simon was brought on as the CEO in 1995. It was that year the YWCA of Greater Miami-Dade was met with major changes internally. Immediately she made facility and information technology updates, as well as restructured each department and their respective responsibilities allowing their area of focus to match the needs of the organizations.

During her tenure,Maloney-Simon has grown the organization, more than double its budgetary size, increasing its impact in the greater Miami- Dade community. The YWCA Greater Miami-Dade has pioneered, aftercare in our public schools, started a movement fighting breast cancer, with the annual Race For a Cure and most recently celebrated 10 years of providing Court Care, a safe and nurturing space for children whose parents are in civil and criminal court. The YWCA Greater Miami has distinguished itself as a leader in Early Childhood Education and a champion of children in our community.

YWCAof Greater Miami-Dade is dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering women.

“Each and every day we remind ourselves that we must keep the focus on our mission, changing lives and our community,” Maloney-Simon said.

Most recently, she played an instrumental role in securing $2.5 million from Miami-Dade County through the Building Better Communities General Obligation Bonds. The YWCA was one of four agenbe matched from the YWCA of Greater Miami-Dade for the construction of the Windows to Early Learning Center for Children, a multi-generational center located in Miami Gardens, which is to open this summer.

Maloney-Simon has earned several awards including Most Powerful Influential Women’s Award from Florida’s Diversity Council, Top 10 Women-led Not-For-Profit Organizations in Florida each year since 2010 from The Commonwealth Institute, Pepsi’s Every Day Hero Award, and Thelma Gibbons Award from the Women’s Chamber of Commerce. She has established a successful partnership with the Intel Foundation and the Boston Museum of Science that resulted in the establishment of the YWCA Intel Computer Clubhouse at its main campus and the construction and opening of a new community playground in partnership with the Trust for Public Lands.

Prior to her arrival at the YWCA, Maloney-Simon had begun to make her mark in the development and community outreach industries.

Maloney-Simon served as director of Housing Management for Miami-Dade County’ HUD Program. She managed over 12,000 units of public and assisted housing including working directly with the residents. During her years with Miami-Dade County she also served as intergovernmental coordinator working with elected leaders in both Washington, DC, and Tallahassee on legislative and funding issues for Miami-Dade County.
