The Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust on June 7 celebrated seven Miami-Dade County Public School students who submitted winning artwork and essays as part of the Trust’s annual “Homeless Awareness and Sensitivity Poster and Essay Contest.” The contest also partnered with Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Project UP-START Homeless Education Program.

The Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust also took note of two record-breaking schools. Ruben Dario Middle and Miami Beach Senior High achieved back-to-back victories in 2017 and 2018 through their extraordinary artwork and essays for homeless advocacy.

The winning artwork will be placed in Chapman Partnership.
The student poster contest winners for middle school are:
Kasandra Suarez, eighth grader at Ruben Dario Middle School;
Bryan Diaz, seventh grader at Ruben Dario Middle School, and
Annabella Zaveras, seventh grader at Lawton Chiles Middle School (Honorable Mention).

The student poster contest winner for elementary is:
Joshua Paz, fifth grader at Coral Reef Elementary.
The student essay contest winners are:
Myles Torayno, 12th grader at Miami Beach Senior High School in Students Who Have Never Been Homeless Category;
Greter Camacho, 11th grader at Arthur and Polly Mays Conservatory of the Arts in Students Who Have Never Been Homeless Category, and
Nicholas Cata, 11th grader at Miami Beach Senior High School in Students Who Have Experienced Homelessness Category.

All student winners and their teachers/homeless liaison will each receive a $50-$125 Visa gift card (one per student) and a $50-$100 Visa gift card (one per teacher/homeless liaison).
