Michael Putney to emcee Kiwanis Biscayne Bay GalaEmmy award-winning Michael Putney, the dean of South Florida political reporters, will be the master of ceremonies for the Biscayne Bay Kiwanis Club’s 35th Biscayne Bay Gala, Oct. 25, honoring Lauren Book as the Michael Shores Citizen of the Year.

Book, founder of Lauren’s Kids — an organization dedicated to preventing childhood sexual abuse — will receive the prestigious award during the Gala at the Jungle Island Treetop Ballroom. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception and silent auction, followed by a dinner and live auction at 7:30 p.m.

Putney, who came to WPLG Local 10 in 1989 to become senior political reporter and host of This Week In South Florida with Michael Putney, is Local 10’s senior reporter on politics and government. He also writes a semimonthly column on politics for The Miami Herald.

Born in New York City, Putney honed his journalistic talents at a wide variety of newspapers, magazines and radio stations across the nation before arriving in South Florida in 1977.
