[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he House of Movement (HOM), Miami’s newest and most innovative wellness studio, recently opened for classes. Located at 1900 Brickell Ave., the studio, housed in a spacious two-story 1950s era home, hosted a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 21.
The House of Movement is dedicated to the journey of finding a balance between mind, body, and soul through a holistic approach to fitness, health, and life. It offers a number of classes in different disciplines including Pilates, Yoga, Zumba, Fisicore, Functional Crossfit, Gyrotonic and pre and postnatal classes. More than 150 classes are offered per week in both group and private sessions. A menu of massage services also are available by appointment only.
The HOM brings together two families — the Valdes family and the Benito-Felix family — under one energized roof. Gladys Valdes started taking Pilates in 2012 and met her business partner, Delia Benito in October 2014, when she began taking private lessons with her. Gladys and her husband, Efrain, own Ibiley Manufacturing and a locally renowned chain of bakeries, Pinecrest Bakery.
Co-owner, Delia Benito, was born in Spain and began dancing classical ballet and flamenco when she was 4 years old. Delia has dedicated her life to music, sports and dance; she holds certifications in Aerobics, Step, Spinning, Body Pump, Body Balance, Gyrotonic, Personal Training, Pilates, and Yoga. Delia’s husband, Alex, started practicing Pilates in 2008 to improve overall performance in his background of MartialArts and BBoyin (Break Dancing).
Alex has trained with some of the top B-boys in the world and pioneers of the dance including Crazy Legs, Kwik Step and Rokafella. He is certified in Pilates and also holds certifications in Gyrotonic, and CRM which is Circuit Resistance Training which combines weight training and cardiovascular training all in one.
