Broward Health Among the First in Broward County to Offer Groundbreaking A-Fib Treatment

Broward Health is proud to be one of the first healthcare systems in Broward County to offer the FARAPULSE™ Pulsed Field Ablation System, a groundbreaking technology to treat atrial fibrillation (A-Fib), the most common type of heart arrhythmia. This innovative treatment represents a significant advancement over traditional thermal ablation methods and provides a more effective solution for patients.

“Pulsed Field Ablation is a game-changer in cardiovascular care,” said Jose Baez, M.D., Broward Health’s chief of cardiology. “This innovative approach not only addresses that need but also improves patient outcomes, ensuring a better quality of life for those diagnosed with A-Fib.”

The FARAPULSE Pulsed Field Ablation System, developed by Boston Scientific, offers an alternative to standard-of-care thermal ablation. It uses non-thermal targeted electrical pulses to correct irregular heart rhythms with significantly less damage to surrounding tissues. The result can be faster recovery times and fewer complications for patients.

Dr. Baez, Broward Health’s first system-wide chief of cardiology, will lead this innovative procedure. He is an expert in the treatment of arrhythmias and is committed to advancing cardiovascular care and improving the lives of patients in Broward County and beyond.

“At Broward Health, we are further enhancing the multi-specialty cardiovascular care we provide so our patients have access to innovative therapies and cutting-edge treatments,” said Dr. Baez. “The FARAPULSE Pulsed Field Ablation System is just one example of the investments we are making to remain at the forefront of medical advancements in South Florida.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated 12.1 million people in the U.S. will be affected by A-Fib. Clinical trial data has shown that the FARAPULSE Pulsed Field Ablation System offers a safer and quicker solution, with no reports of permanent injuries like nerve damage or other serious side effects.

More than 30 cases using the FARAPULSE™ Pulsed Field Ablation System have been completed at Broward Health Medical Center, demonstrating the system’s commitment to advancing cardiac care.
