HRSA, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, oversees the Health Center Program, which supports community-based clinics that deliver affordable primary and preventive care, including dental and behavioral health services, to underserved populations regardless of the ability to pay.

Each year, HRSA awards CHQR badges to health center programs that demonstrate excellence in access, clinical quality, health outcomes and health information technology. Based on data from the Uniform Data System, an annual federal report tracking patient care, quality and outcomes at health centers nationwide, these awards reflect the most recent reporting year, in this case 2024.

Broward HealthPoint, which is one of just 54 federally qualified Health Center Programs in Florida, earned the following two CHQR badges:

  • Improving health care access: This honor was earned for increasing the number of patients served within two back-to-back reporting years and expanding access to essential services. Broward HealthPoint served 26,950 unduplicated patients in 2024, a 9.5% increase from 2023 and recorded an increase in more patients receiving needed services.
  • Advancing health information technology for quality: This recognition honors health centers that excel in using technology to enhance care delivery and patient outcomes. The badge is awarded to centers that offer telehealth services, exchange clinical information electronically with key healthcare providers, engage patients through digital platforms and collect data on social and health-related needs. This was all possible because of Broward Health’s systemwide implementation of EPIC, the nationally recognized electronic health record system.

“This national recognition reflects our steadfast commitment to advancing access, quality and innovation in healthcare,” said Shane Strum, President and CEO of Broward Health. “Broward HealthPoint, our Stay Healthy Together initiative, the opening of our Maternity Care and Heart Community Resource Center in Lauderdale Lakes and our implementation of Epic are just a few of the extraordinary examples of how we are connecting care throughout local communities to ensure that every patient receives the right care, in the right place, at the right time.”

The CHQR award program recognizes community health centers nationwide that achieve high-quality clinical outcomes and equitable access to care for underserved populations.
