$1 from every cookie sold in October will benefit American Cancer Society — Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Doris Italian Market & Bakery locations throughout South Florida are once again supporting the American Cancer Society – Making Strides Against Breast Cancer this October.
Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, $1 from every signature pink and white frosted cookie sold at Doris Italian Market locations will benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Over the last decade, Doris Italian Market has raised more than $15,000 from cookie sales for the American Cancer Society.
“From beloved family to friends to our valued customers, breast cancer has impacted the lives of so many people we know,” said John Alfano, president of Doris Italian Market & Bakery. “As a neighborhood market, it’s important for us as a family to give back to the community that has supported us for decades.”
Making Strides hosts three-to-five-mile non-competitive fundraising walks to go toward research, treatment and more. The organization provides resources and a supportive community, including a 24/7 helpline, one-on-one cancer patient support services and video chats for breast cancer survivors, metastatic breast cancer thrivers, caregivers and families.
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer in women after lung cancer. This year alone, it is estimated that more than 319,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. The organization also reports that more than four million breast cancer survivors are currently living in the U.S. and more than 150,000 breast cancer patients are living with metastatic disease.
