Dr. López adds COO role while continuing to serve as Chief Medical Officer
Holy Cross Health, a member of Trinity Health, announced that José J. López, MD, MBA, FACEP assumed the expanded role of chief operating officer, effective July 6, while continuing to serve as chief medical officer, underscoring the organization’s commitment to integrating clinical excellence with operational leadership.
As COO, Dr. López will provide executive leadership across operational functions, directly and indirectly overseeing key leaders to ensure alignment with the organization’s financial, strategic and performance goals.
“Through his exceptional leadership as CMO, Dr. López has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to people-centered care and an ability to lead across diverse care settings, earning the trust and respect of colleagues across Holy Cross Health,” said Pierre Monice, president and CEO. “In addition, Dr. López brings a wealth of operational experience to the COO position, which will be instrumental in advancing our mission.”
Dr. López joined Holy Cross Health as CMO in 2021. Previously, he served as the CEO of Healthpoint Hospital in Abu Dhabi, overseeing all operational functions. As chief of the award-winning Emergency Medicine Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, he chaired the clinical activation committee and oversaw emergency medicine construction projects. At MedStar Health, he helped lead the expansion of the emergency department, increasing capacity from 60 to 100 beds.

Board-certified by the American College of Emergency Medicine, Dr. López earned his M.D., completed his residency and was chief resident in emergency medicine at the University of Massachusetts. He received an MBA in Medical Services Management from Johns Hopkins University and holds a certificate in managing health care delivery from Harvard Business School. Dr. López graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Tufts University.
Fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. López is a member for the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American College of Emergency Physicians.
