The City of Fort Lauderdale hosts City Commission meetings in person at various temporary locations. If any person wishes to address the City Commission, the person shall sign up using the City Clerk’s iPad. CITY COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING
Commission Advances Selection Process for New City Hall
The City Commission Special Meeting included presentations from the four finalist teams competing to develop the new City Hall. The presentations included revised designs, updated cost information, financing approaches, team qualifications, and long-term operations plans. After hearing presentations from each development team and reviewing recommendations and analysis from staff and the City’s consultants, the City Commission finalized the rankings: FTL City Hall Partners was selected as the top-ranked proposer, with Balfour Beatty second, Fort Lauderdale Civic Partners third, and FTL Beacon Collaborative fourth. The City Manager was authorized to begin negotiating an interim and/or comprehensive agreement(s) with the highest-ranked proposer, with the option to move to the next highest ranked if negotiations do not result in an agreement. COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOARD MEETING
CRA Board Approves Incentive for Mixed-Income Housing Project in Progresso Village
The CRA Board approved a $10 million Development Incentive Program forgivable loan for a new mixed-use, mixed-income development at 312 NW 7 Street in Progresso Village. The eight-story project includes 422 rental apartments, ground floor retail, structured parking, and 114 affordable units in perpetuity, supporting the City’s ongoing efforts to expand affordable housing options. As part of the project, the developer will also donate 0.77 acres of land to the CRA for future redevelopment. Construction is expected to begin in 2026 and finish in 2028. Commission Approves Grant Agreement to Support Senior Nutrition Programs
The City Commission approved a $127,842 grant agreement with the Areawide Council on Aging of Broward County, Inc. to support senior nutrition programs. The funding will help provide approximately 50,000 home-delivered meals for an estimated 125 homebound seniors in Fort Lauderdale, along with 25,000 congregate meals served at sites throughout Broward County. Commission Approves Grant to Support Children with Developmental Disabilities
The City Commission approved a $25,000 grant agreement with the JAFCO Children’s Ability Center to support case management and respite care for approximately 75 Fort Lauderdale families who have children with developmental disabilities. The funding will help families navigate medical, educational, and support services for children diagnosed with autism, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and other developmental delays. Commission Approves Grant Agreement to Support Affordable Childcare
The City Commission approved a $100,000 grant agreement with the Early Learning Coalition of Broward County to help provide subsidized childcare for approximately 2,500 income-eligible Fort Lauderdale children. The funding supports working parents and guardians by expanding access to affordable, high-quality childcare and helps match federal and state grants to increase services for Fort Lauderdale families. Commission Approves Wireless Broadband Pilot Project Agreement
The City Commission approved an agreement with Slice Wireless Solutions, Inc. to launch a Wireless Broadband Pilot Project that will bring free, reliable Wi-Fi to an area bordered by NW 17 Avenue, NW 12 Avenue, Sunrise Boulevard, and Sistrunk Boulevard. The project will use existing light pole infrastructure to create a wireless mesh network, expanding digital access for residents where home internet service is often limited. The project is funded through the federal CDBG-CV program, which supports COVID-19 recovery efforts for low- to moderate-income communities, and includes four optional one-year renewals for subscription services. Commission Appoints Chris Cooper as Deputy City Manager
The City Commission approved the appointment of Christopher “Chris” Cooper as Deputy City Manager effective December 8, 2025. Mr. Cooper currently serves as Assistant City Manager and will continue overseeing the City’s external services portfolio, which includes the Community Redevelopment Agency, Community Services, Development Services, Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, and Neighbor Support. In this role, he will also serve as acting City Manager when needed and provide leadership across departments to support Commission priorities and resident services. Mr. Cooper has worked for the City since 2018 and previously served as Director of Development Services before becoming Assistant City Manager. For more details, visit ftlcity.info/3KkmDiZ.
