Laundry Love South Florida is thrilled to announce it has been awarded a two-year, $10,000 grant from Episcopal Charities of Southeast Florida. The competitive grant program was open to ministries sponsored by Episcopal churches within the Diocese of Southeast Florida. Laundry Love South Florida is a human care initiative that helps to wash the clothing and bedding of individuals and families in need, regardless of their background or circumstances. Grant funds will be used to support community outreach efforts.
“We are very excited to be awarded this grant as we continue to assist and serve many people who are in need through our Laundry Love program,” said Rich Markiewicz, coordinator of Laundry Love South Florida. “We currently operate in three locations, with several more in the works. We are proud that we have been recognized for our good work and will put it to very good use in supporting and expanding our program.”
Grant-eligible programs were required to address basic human needs in one or more of the following areas: seniors, children, food insecurity, homelessness, hygiene, immigration, health promotion, or mental health. Laundry Love South Florida qualified under several of these categories.
Laundry Love South Florida began as a ministry of All Saints Episcopal Church in Fort Lauderdale (333 Tarpon Dr., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301) in 2019 and now involves the efforts of several churches. The ministry is rooted in the belief that restoring dignity begins with small acts of care. Volunteers fund laundry machines and provide detergent, while corporate partners, such as Bombas and Earth Breeze, donate socks and eco-friendly detergent.
In its first five years, the original Laundry Love location served approximately 2,000 guests and cleaned nearly 90 tons of laundry with the help of over 200 volunteers.
Now, Laundry Love South Florida serves guests at the following locations:
  • The Laundry Spot Hollywood (1410 N Federal Hwy, Hollywood, FL 33020) – Ministry of All Saints Episcopal Church holds monthly events at this location on the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 3:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • The Sock Monster Laundromart in Pompano Beach (45 S Pompano Pkwy, Pompano Beach, FL 33069) – Ministry of St. Mary Magdalene and St. Martin Episcopal Church holds monthly events at this location on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • The Oasis Laundry in Oakland Park (3560 N Andrews Ave, Oakland Park, FL 33309) – Ministry of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church holds monthly events at this location on the 4th Wednesday of each month from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
