Community Generosity Fuels World-Class Care at Memorial Healthcare System

The Memorial Foundation and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation recently presented a $15 million philanthropic contribution to the South Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners, recognizing donor support that helped make possible three recently completed projects: the expansion of Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, the Memorial Cancer Institute at Memorial Hospital West and the new Family Birthplace at Memorial Regional Hospital.

“These remarkable projects are a reflection of our community’s generosity and the life-changing impact it brings to countless families,” said Kelley Morris, president of Memorial Foundation and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Through the generous support of our donors, we are able to provide children, mothers and cancer patients with access to exceptional care, state-of-the-art technology, modern facilities and compassionate programs—advancing our commitment to excellence and hope within our healthcare system.”

The Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital expansion added four new floors with advanced neurosurgical and cardiac care, rehabilitation services and family-centered spaces. The Family Birthplace now offers a new and modern, private environment for labor, delivery and postpartum care, along with seamless access to Level IV neonatal intensive care. The Memorial Cancer Institute brings research, treatment and survivorship services together under one roof, expanding access to leading-edge therapies and clinical trials.

“While these buildings are complete, the Foundation’s role continues every day,” said Beth-Ann Krimsky, board chair of the Memorial and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundations. “Philanthropy sustains programs like patient and family assistance, research initiatives and specialized equipment that go beyond what traditional healthcare funding provides. That’s what transforms excellent care into extraordinary care.”

Together, the Foundations continue to support a wide range of patient programs and services across these facilities. That includes but is not limited to providing breast cancer diagnostic testing and emergency assistance, wigs and prostheses for cancer patients so patients can face treatment with dignity and confidence, funding state-of-the-art rehabilitation technology that helps children regain mobility and independence and offering parent education classes that prepare new families for life’s most important role.
