The Town of Davie Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is hosting its annual Mayors’ Chess Challenge on Saturday, September 13, 2025. This free event will take place at the Pine Island Multipurpose Center, 3801 S. Pine Island Road, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Players of all ages and skills are welcome to participate and have the opportunity to challenge elected officials and community leaders to a friendly chess session. Instructors from Chess Art will be on hand to help those new to the game.

The Mayors’ Chess Challenge started in South Florida 10 years ago to draw attention to the benefits of chess, one of the oldest and most intriguing games, and is now hosted by 20 municipalities throughout the year. Players learn critical-thinking skills, improve concentration and discipline, develop problem-solving skills, and build self-esteem and good sportsmanship. Participants can pick up a special “passport” to log all the local events they attend. A special 100-year commemorative stamp will be used at the Davie event in honor of the Town’s upcoming centennial celebration.

Chess boards will be provided by the Town for competition use. Light refreshments will be available and raffle prizes awarded to participants.
