TOWN OF DAVIE SCHOOL ZONE SPEED SAFETY PROGRAM GO LIVE AT SELECT LOCATIONS

Warnings will be issued to drivers for 30 days before citations are issued at select locations.

As part of the first phase of the Town of Davie’s School Zone Speed Safety Program, two speed cameras will go live and begin issuing warnings on March 17 – April 16, 2025. On April 17, 2025, the cameras will begin issuing citations to anyone caught speeding near our community’s schools. The camera locations are:

  • Eastbound on SW 30th St. at Nova Southeastern University and University School
  • Northbound on SW 133rd Ave at Flamingo Elementary/ Western High

The speed camera program is in place to curb speeding in school zones across the Town and to protect the safety of children, residents, and school staff. As a reminder, the new automated traffic safety program is being done in a phased approach, and more cameras will come online throughout the year townwide.

By law, the Town must provide a 30-day warning/grace period before officially issuing citations.

Warnings will be issued from Monday, March 17 to Wednesday April 16, 2025. Citations will begin on April 17, 2025.

Vehicles found to be traveling over the speed limit which occurs within 30 minutes before through 30 minutes after the start of a regularly scheduled school session will receive a notice in the mail alerting them to their illegal act and reminding them about the importance of staying alert in this location. After the 30-day warning period, the program will begin issuing citations to violators. Fines will be sent to the vehicle’s registered owner for $100 within 30 days after a violation. The cameras will capture images of the vehicle license plates and transmit the potential violation through secure video. Law enforcement will verify the infraction before a fine is issued.
