Devyn Losco, R.N. and Nicole Hedges, R.N. honored for their compassionate care
Two extraordinary Holy Cross Health nurses, Devyn Losco, R.N. and Nicole Hedges, R.N., have received the DAISY Award, which recognizes and celebrates nurses who go above and beyond in their efforts to provide patients and families with excellent, compassionate care.
Devyn Losco, R.N. was nominated by the offspring of a 91-year-old patient, who expressed extreme appreciation for the level of care and devotion shown to their mother. The nominator called Losco “an angel of a nurse” and “godsend” adding that “she was respectful, patient and diligent and did an excellent job keeping the family informed. Her upbeat attitude and smiling face helped raise spirits and calm nerves.” Losco even rescheduled her days off to continue taking care of this patient. Her dedication did not go unnoticed. She also kept the woman’s room and bed clean, tidy and organized.
Nicole Hedges, R.N. from Pompano Beach was nominated by an associate she was training in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU). The associate praised Hedge’s ability to teach and mentor and feels privileged to have worked with her. The nominator noted that Hedges patiently and thoroughly demonstrates and explains things to ensure those who are learning from her gain confidence and serves as a role model who inspires nurses to be just as passionate as she is about the profession. “Patients adore her, lighting up whenever she enters the room,” the nominator said. Hedges has an innate ability to catch small abnormalities quickly. She makes patients feel safe under her compassionate care.
Patients, family members, fellow nurses, physicians, clinicians and staff can nominate a nurse who they observe providing extraordinarily compassionate care. The nominations are blindly reviewed by an internal committee at Holy Cross Health who judge the submission based on how the nurse meets and exceeds the Holy Cross mission and values.
Each honoree received a certificate in a DAISY portfolio, hand-carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, pin, congratulatory banner to hang in the unit where they work, a copy of their nomination, gift bag and cinnamon rolls to share at a celebration. The nurses will be added to the DAISY Award website and gain access to professional development, education and wellness benefits.
