The original and well-designed 2021 Mercedes Benz AMG GLB 35 SUV made its mark on me.
For the first time in one of my columns, I’m starting with the options because they really fill out the design of the 2021 AMG GLB 35 SUV. It’s really all about the options. The best of the bunch would total about $3,500 on this SUV, which has a price of about $51,000.
The details really add to the flavor of this SUV.
The $750 AMG night package, which adds jet-black accents, is an option that dials up the cool factor on the AMG GLB 35. The front air-dam splitter and air-intake fins are finished in deep gloss black, as are the side mirrors, the side-window surrounds, the side-sill inserts, and the rear diffuser trim. To finish it off, the roof rails come in matte black while the quad round tailpipes feature a black chrome treatment.
Another option for the side mirrors and the side trim include customizing them with carbon style designs, which together cost about $500. I like both because they give the vehicle a modern flare.
The panorama roof is another great option that opens up this SUV to the beautiful blue sky of South Florida. Another nice option is to add chrome to both the door handle and the rear trim, which give the AMG GLB 35 a touch of class. I have to admit I love chrome on my cars.
I would also pay $350 to illuminate the star on this Mercedes.
The 19-inch AMG tires also give you lots of opportunity to make this SUV your own. There are at least seven rims to choose from including five-spoke, 10-spoke and multi-spoke. I like the twin five-spoke. They remind me of a hot rod.
The interior is as spacious as the exterior is gorgeous. To begin with, the vents look like the front of a jet plane engine. The seats come in your choice of seven colors, from neva grey to classic red and you get the option of third row seats.
Now let’s talk about some of the more interesting features that come standard in the 2021 AMG GLB 35 SUV. There is a 10.25-inch digital instrument multimedia display with a hands-free Bluetooth interface, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You get the Mercedes Benz User Experience system and voice control with “natural language understanding.” As for power, there are four USB-C ports plus a household-type 115-volt power outlet.
The sport steering wheel includes a set of controls that lets you adjust performance settings quickly and easily, with integrated color displays to confirm your selection. The left switches can be assigned to functions such as the manual shift mode and the damping modes of AMG ride control. The right round control knob selects and displays the driving mode for dynamic select.
The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine generates 301 horsepower, which gets 23 miles per gallon in the city and 31 mph on the highway.
