The 2023 BMW iX xDrive50 is the company’s first all electric SUV and it is fantastic. To make it stand out, BMW calls it an SAV, a sports activity vehicle.

You get a range of 324 miles on its standard 20-inch wheels. For context, Walt Disney World is 231 miles from Miami, so it will get you to the mouse house and then some without a problem.

The SAV starts at about $84,200, and offers raw power that is very impressive. The 610 maximum horsepower delivered gets you from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds.

Beyond performance, BMW has focused attention on personalizing this vehicle to the driver. One interesting feature is that the vehicle’s Comfort Access system senses your arrival using ultra-wideband technology and it does three things: it triggers a choreographed welcome light display, unlocks your doors, and even loads your favorite settings – all without having to take your key out of your pocket. It’s a pretty great trick.

The exterior is a wonderful surprise that makes great use of size to give the car a sense of power. The details include the intelligent kidney grille with sensor technology and aerodynamic enhancements, which captured my attention from tip to tail.

The engineers paid attention throughout the outside. They created a dynamic rear design, complete with slim rear taillights, a drag-reducing rear diffuser, and rear-view camera integrated into the BMW roundel, which is the circle with the BMW symbol.

The 2023 BMW iX xDrive50 is sleek: The iX features up to 22-inch aerodynamic wheel designs, integrated flush door handles and frameless windows. I like the look, which is very much in keeping with the new era of electric technology.

On the inside you get a large, spacious cabin that feels like you have stepped into the future. It really is amazing that what had been suggested was possible with electric vehicles is now here in the form of the 2023 BMW iX xDrive50.

The infotainment system is big, to say the least. It’s not only big, but it is unique. The boldly modern curved display extends halfway across the dashboard, appearing as though it’s floating. Minimalist dash buttons and controls deliver innovation without intrusion. It’s really easy to use and as clear as a bright Miami afternoon.

From the available open-pore wood finish and exquisite glass controls, you get a sense of luxury from every feature right down to the control dial in the center of the middle console. In terms of the seats, you can choose the upholstery, which is available in sustainable materials like quilted olive-leaf tanned leather, microfiber and wool blend, and Perforated SensaTec.

I have to say that the 2023 BMW iX xDrive50 not only delivers impressive performance, but also incredible luxury and design perfection. Drive this car and step into the future.
