The sleek design is an eye-catcher and keeper in Kia’s remodeled 2021 K5 GT-Line AWD.
It sits atop 18-inch sport alloys that give it credibility as both a family car and a world-beater in the highly competitive world of sedans. This vehicle will be a common sight in the city and on the highway as more people venture out in the coming months.
Starting at just over $30,000, the 2021 Kia K5 GT-Line AWD’s engine feels good when driving in the neighborhood or on the freeway.
What you get is 26 miles per gallon in the city, and a whopping 34 mpg on the highway, with an average of 29 mpg. These are great fuel economy numbers, which can sometimes drive up the cost of a vehicle, but Kia has set this highly attractive sedan at a very affordable price.
The car comes with two choices for power — an engine with output of 180 horsepower, with 195 pound-feet of torque is standard. The GT line provides for a 2.5-liter turbo with 290 horsepower and best-in-class 311 pound-feet of torque. The designers thought it was important to actively distribute torque between front and rear for added traction and control.
The quick shift, eight-speed dual clutch transmission produces great speed, getting you from 0 to 60 faster than the BMW 330i, according to Kia’s website. That tells me this isn’t your typical dad or mom car.
But like most family cars it is packed with safety features including smart cruise control with highway driving assist, forward collision-avoidance assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance, and junction turning accident avoidance technology.
Inside the cabin, you get a 10.25-inch touch screen with navigation, which is plenty of visual real estate for connecting your Apple CarPlay or Android Auto easily. The songs you play come through a Bose premium surround sound system with 12 speakers. The car also comes with an ultra-lux panorama sunroof, which feels like you are taking in the whole sky.
And, heated and ventilated front power seats give you plenty of convenient comfort that is responsive to every season.
Exterior wise, I love the shark skin grill and the fastback feature that is reminiscent of the Ford mustang, adding a sense of cool that is always close to my heart.
The bottom line is that the 2021 Kia K5 GT-Line AWD is one of my top choices for sedan. It might even top my list at the end of 2021.
