JOBC Auction on Oct. 2 moving to new location

The Junior Orange Bowl’s annual fundraiser is just around the corner. With a “Beach Blanket Bingo” theme, this year’s event will be chaired again by Cecilia Dubon Slesnick.

The action on Oct. 2 will move to a new location, the Miami Rowing Club. Junior Orange Bowl Committee executive director Mark Pidal and the Event Committee still are accepting donations of auction items as well as sponsorships. The Blue, a new upscale all suite hotel in Doral, recently hosted a Donor Appreciation Reception and Auction for the Community Foundation of Pinecrest (CFP). Guests enjoyed an open bar, great hors d’oeuvres and an opportunity to bid on more than 45 auction items.

Among the many helping make the event a success and enjoying the evening were chair Steve Beiley; CFP secretary Pam Schaefer; CFP board members Pierre Apollon, Dan Scipione, Rick Tonkinson, Dan Heller, Jennifer Wollmann, and Luis Boue. Among the Pinecrest village officials present were Vice Mayor Jef f Cutler, and council members Nancy Harter, Bob Ross, and Joe Corradino. Volunteers that night were Jo Burke, Yolanda Woodbridge, Candy Hertsch, Dannaliz Segrera and Sandy Schaefer.

This reception hosted by The Blue is the first of many upcoming events for this newly created foundation. In fact, CFP also presented an “Estate Planning Check-Up” on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Pinecrest Branch Library with featured speakers estate planning attorney Dan Heller, of Heller Waldman, and Carol Nobles, Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist, of Young Stovall & Company. This is one of a series of free events to be sponsored by CFP.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade will hold its 12th Annual Bebe Rebozo Golf Tournament presented by Carmen Rebozo Foundation on Monday, Oct. 12, at La Gorce Country Club. Tournament registration begins at 11 a.m.; putting contest at noon; shotgun start at 1:15 p.m. All golfers receive a gift bag, complimentary parking, green fees, cart, range balls, box lunch, on-course beverages, and will enjoy gourmet banquet and awards ceremony. Rotary Day at LandShark Stadium is scheduled for Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. Rotarians and their guests may join the fun as the Miami Dolphins play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Speaking of Rotary, longtime honorary Rotarian and generous donor Josephine Burke was installed as an active Rotarian by the Rotary Club of Coral Gables on Sept. 3. On hand to participate in the ceremony were past district governor Robin Shelly; club president Wiley Hicks, and Burke’s sponsor; past president Yoli Woodbridge. The Rotary Club of Coral Gables meets every Thursday, noon, at the Westin Colonnade in Coral Gables. Visiting Rotarians always are welcome to attend.

In other volunteer activity, Gloria helps Miami Christian School with fund-raising and PR; is an Ambassador and volunteers for events for A Safe Haven for Newborns. She is an active member of the Music Ministry at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she enjoys singing in the choir every weekend.
