From the Coral Gables Community Foundation’s Annual Gala to the Rotary Club’s Chili Cook Off, there is a plethora of amazing activities on the calendar this fall.
On Oct. 22, A Safe Haven for Newborns Gala took place at the Hilton Miami Downtown.
Nick Silverio, founder and CEO of ASHFN, reports they now have saved from abandonment and possible death 366 babies and counting. Look for more on that in next issue.
But for now, mark your calendars for National Philanthropy Day, Chili Cook-Off and Halloween events.
On Oct. 21, Coral Gables Community Foundation’s Annual Gala, titled The Road to RIO Gala from Ipanema, was held at The Biltmore Hotel. Foundation president Mary Snow was delighted to announce it was sold out. Her announcement was made during a lovely reception on Oct. 12 for honorees and benefactors at Fogo de Chao Brazilian Steakhouse in the upstairs Cigar Room. Miami’s Community Newspapers is delighted to be a CGCF media sponsor and applauds their incredible impact on our community. As for the gala, look for more on this event and others in an upcoming issue. Kudos to Sissy DeMaria-Koehne and Lauren Harrison Brown who once again chaired the CGCF 2022 Gala.
The Miami Association of Fundraising Professional’s 35th annual National Philanthropy Day Anniversary Awards Luncheon seems to sell out every year as well, attracting grant makers, financial firms, and charitable organizations who gather to honor outstanding individuals making a positive impact on our community. This year’s luncheon is to be held at the Hilton Miami Downtown, 1601 Biscayne Blvd. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the lunch and awards program will begin promptly at noon.
The National Philanthropy Day Committee includes its president Jaime Bayo, MPA CFRE; president-elect/Mentorship chair Melissa Wetzel, CFRE in partnership with Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, The Miami Foundation and Partnership for Philanthropic Planning of Miami-Dade. Amateur as well as first time cooks and professional chefs are invited to compete for the title of best chili at the Rotary Club of Coral Gables Chili Cook-Off on Sunday, Oct. 30, 1-5 p.m. There are prizes for everything, even table decorations. Of course, chefs will start cooking at 9 a.m. and decorating their spots. With live music, bounce house for kids and costume contests, this promises to be a great outing for the family.
Chairing this year’s event of the RCCG president-elect Frank Sexton with founding event chair and past president Greg Martini are delighted with the number of sponsors that have signed up. Volunteers are welcomed to contact Yoli Woodbridge to sign up (ywassociates@bellsouth.net,). This is a great way for students to get those volunteer hours needed. Family fun may also be enjoyed on Oct. 29 for Paws4You’s 12th annual Howl-O-Ween at Pinecrest Gardens from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For tickets and more information visit paws4you.org/howl-o-ween. Finally on Oct. 25, the Rotary Club of Coral Gables and Coral Gables Woman’s Club will have another joint Game Night fundraiser hosted by Bay 13 in Coral Gables. Despite the low turnout because of weather, thanks to sponsor South State Bank, the Sept. 27 event was a success.
Next up for CGWC is the Nov. 9 Gringo Bingo at Clutch Burger with proceeds being shared with the Alzheimer’s Foundation. As always, Steven Bradley is emcee and attorney Lillian Ser once again is sponsoring this November event in honor of her mother who suffered from Alzheimer’s. The event runs from 7 to 9 p.m. but many arrive early to eat and get a great seat.
