Baptist Hospital and Rehab team worked miracles for me

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

After taking a tumble down two steps, this writer required major mending and — thanks to Baptist Hospital surgeons, nurses and rehab folks — things are progressing well.

When one leaves rehab, they even give you a great send off as everyone comes to bid you goodbye presenting each patient with a graduation certificate. They don’t refer to this Baptist Rehab Hospital Homestead as the Harvard of rehabs for nothing. Shout out to my PT Freddie, Rachel and so many others who put me on the mend. As for all who sent flowers, cards and food, thank you ever so much. You all brightened my stay.

While I was hold up at Baptist, there were many fun events happening and people covering for me. Flag Day on June 14 was a stormy one, so, John and Susan Medina held off until the 15th to raise their beautiful American flag for a Flay Day celebration with friends. Party guests arrived with patriotic themed dishes for all to share. Lynn Bauer’s strawberry shortcake depicting the flag was among the many treats enjoyed by the crowd.

Also, picking up the slack for me, Coral Gables Woman’s Club past president and GFWC FL District 11 director Ruth Martinez, Alma Suarez and Meredeth McKissick with several club members made sure the monthly bingo event went off as planned with the proceeds being shared with Bleeding Blue, a non-profit foundation that supports police officers who have been harmed or killed in the line of duty.

It was great to see folks from Zoo Miami and police supporting the June 25 event. Among the many attending the fundraiser were Daniel Montano, Megan Rabelo, Deborah and Kevin Courtney, Cole Ferreira, Bianchi Gonzalez, Gaby Alfaro, Julia Irvin, Cathie Burns, Rita and Saesha Tennyson. Kudos to Kings Bowl in Doral for providing amazing prizes for this event every month. By the way, they have added table tennis to the many games you can play there.

In other news, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) FL District 11 condcuted its first meeting of Ruth Martinez’s term as district director on June 21, where 12 South Florida women’s clubs gathered to exchange ideas and collaborate. With Martinez in the lead, you can expect some fun joint events coming up soon.

Until next time, share your time and talents, count your blessings, and make a difference.
