The Annual Pink Lighting for breast cancer awareness month at the Intercontinental Hotel took place Oct. 1, part of as celebration hosted by the hotel as a kick off for the 8th Annual Charity Campaign for Susan G. Komen.
This was a teaser of sorts for the “Pop of Pink” affair held on Oct. 27. The kick off event featured Al Blanco and MJPOP of White’s Art Gallery. A silent auction offered everything from weekend hotel stays to wearable art, including a skirt this writer won as high bidder.
They also donated items the “Pop of Pink” fundraiser on Oct. 27. That luncheon fashion show highlighted designs by some very talented students from the Miami Fashion Institute. These students, with little sleep because of finals, managed to complete their gowns designed especially for the show and enjoyed seeing them modeled by breast cancers survivors.
During the program. Palmetto General Hospital’s Vilma Medio took the stage to share her mother’s story of breast cancer survival and presented a $5,000 check they had raised for Susan G. Komen.
Nubielena Medina, who emceed the affair, also acknowledged the sizable commitment over the years from the Intercontinental Hotel Doral and its General Manger Randal Pasut, who also addressed the crowd with his touching story.
Pierini Esthetic in Doral held yet another breast cancer fundraiser on Oct. 25 raising funds to provide free mammograms to those in need.
More than 100 people supported the affair that featured an informational panel discussion after a social hour with drinks and hors d’oeuvres. The Pierini family was there in force with clients, friends and staff all generously supporting the event in Pierini Esthetic’s beautiful facility on 41st Street in Doral.
Kick Start to Halloween
Halloween parties began earlier than usual. The GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club, who annual event supports the club’s free children’s dental clinic, was held on Oct. 20, at their clubhouse.
Chaired by Barbara Lapsley and Marilyn Smit, the duo and their committee pulled off yet another fabulous party with music, dancing, food and prizes. Meantime, a costume party, murder mystery and musical performance were held the following weekend at the historic Curtiss Mansion.
A spectacular show was orchestrated by Dual pianists Kirk Whipple and Marilyn Morales with a soprano and tenor who will be performing in Marilyn new musical. This was such a fun evening and the talent was Broadway quality. Kudos to all.
Yet another mixer brought together Rotarians from Doral and around the District for Miami’s first Rotary Means Business Fellowship event at Tank Brewing Company in the Doral area. Among the many enjoying the event were Felipe Madrigal, Felipe Vidal, Joe Roth, Tony Pinheiro, Neil Kodsi, Peter Verbeeck, Dr. Imelda Medina, and Keith Noble, to mention a few.

Finally, congratulations go out to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Foundation who opened their new offices in Doral. City of Doral Mayor J.C. Bermudez, council members, and other dignitaries gathered there on Oct. 10 to participate in the official ribbon cutting. Welcome to Doral.
