Despite potential thunderstorms and people taking summer vacations, members of the Coral Gables Woman’s Club (CGWC) continue to raise funds for their free children’s dental clinic and other charities.
From a recent belly dancing class conducted by Lamis and an upcoming Bunco Night to their monthly Gringo Bingo fundraisers at Clutch Burger, these women are tireless.
In fact, despite the threat of a possible tropical storm, people attending the sold out CGWC Gringo Bingo at Clutch Burger, helped raise more than $2,000, the second most ever for this event, thanks sponsors 1st Empire Elite Financial and EZ Title Services as well as good friends Lynn Bauer and Hal Wanless. The club will share the July proceeds 50/50 supporting their participation in Smartride and the rest directed to other club efforts such as their children’s free dental clinic.
This July Gringo Bingo was a night of celebration for many especially Susan Medina who was surprised with a birthday cake that her husband and everyone in attendance enjoyed after eating some great burgers and playing several bingo games. As always, the crowd was entertained by Clutch owner Steven Bradley and celebrity DJ Germain who donates his services for this event every month.
Adding to the fun, Mike Couture, who runs an ecotours company out of Islamorada, once again donated a tour package that brought in a nice donation.
Carmen Suarez, who chairs the CGWC’s Smartride Committee, shared with the bingo guests a little about this 165-mile ride from Miami to Key West over two days that has raised $12.5 million for several HIV/AIDS Clinics around the state. The club has participated for the past 16 years manning water stations while dressed in themed costumes and this year, on Nov. 19-20, 10 members will volunteer once again. Next up, 1st Empire Elite Financial and EZ Title Services again will sponsor the Aug. 3 Gringo Bingo with another sold out event.
Coral Gables Rotarians have opened in-person meetings on a limited scale with Zoom always an option even for in-person meetings. RCCG now meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables at 12:15 p.m. with Zoom meetings for the first and third Thursdays.
Coral Gables Mayor Vince Lago was a recent guest speaker at Rotary and shared his vision for Coral Gables. Following his talk, there was a question and answer discussion which everyone enjoyed and even caused the meeting to run late as well as the mayor who had another engagement that afternoon.
By the way, RSVPs are needed for the Hyatt meetings in order to get your menu selection and give the hotel a count. Visiting Rotarians are welcomed.
