With the change of seasons, fall arrives with a basket full of activities to get us all out of the house.

September closes with Gables Rotarians and Coral Gables Woman’s Club (CGWC) joint Game Night fundraiser hosted by Bay 13 and sponsored by SouthState Bank with one of the many beneficiaries being Motivational Edge. That will be followed on October 11, 7-9 p.m., with Coral Gables Woman’s Clubs’ Gringo Bingo at Clutch Burger to benefit the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.

These women are busy also preparing for the club’s 100th anniversary in 2023 among so many other programs like donning gloves and garbage bags for a neighborhood cleanup on Sept. 17, led by the club’s Environment Chair Frances Cabrera.

CGWC is partnering their resources with other organizations as well to raise funds to make a positive impact on our communities. At the Coral Gables Woman’s Club first meeting of the club year, a collection of gently used tennis shoes began for a joint effort with the Hialeah Woman’s Club and Westland Mall to recycle these shoes that have plastic and cannot be put in recycle bins. The shoes will be re-soled and sent to third world countries whose people can sell the shoes as a way of making a living. Anyone wishing to donate items may contact Barbara Hassall, president of the Hialeah Woman’s Club, barbara.hassall01@gmail.com, or CGWC president Ruth Martinez at ruthiecgwc@gmail.com.

Community Newspapers is honored to have South Florida PBS CEO Dolores Sukhdeo as a featured speaker for its Cafecito at Casacuba in South Miami on Oct. 4. South Florida PBS (SFLPBS) stations (WPBT and WXEL) have some amazing programs that started this month including The U.S and The Holocaust. SFLPBS marketing and communications director Jeneissy Azcuy was a recent guest on Gloria’s Gab LIVE to discuss all the wonderful programming coming up this fall. While Coral Gables Community Foundation is planning its fabulous gala on Oct. 21, at The Biltmore Hotel, the very next day A Safe Haven for Newborns (ASHFN) will hold its annual gala on Oct. 22, at the Hilton Downtown Miami. Last year’s ASHFN gala attracted more than 350 supporters celebrating the lives of over 360 precious newborns.

This year’s event increases that number of babies saved from abandonment and possible death to 365 and counting. In the case of this organization, it is not just the babies that are saved but ASHFN also gives support and life changing help to all the mothers.

Founder and CEO Nick Silverio, who works 24/7 with no salary, inspires his one person staff and countless amazing Ambassadors to help support the organization with multiple fundraising events including the annual Gala, 5K Run/Walk and a golf tournament. Nick was a recent guest on Gloria’s Gab LIVE. To view that show, visit www.facebook.com/Communitynewspapers/videos/450977480329492/ or Youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmIq_2zbwtI.

Yet another collaboration has nonprofits and service organizations signing up to participate in the Rotary Club of Coral Gables Chili Cook Off on Sunday, Oct. 30. Rotarian Greg Martini is coordinating signup for chefs while president-elect and Chili Cook Off chair Frank Sexton is coordinating sponsorship and planning with his committee.

A dozen or so chefs already have registered, so reserve your space soon. This event can be an effective team builder as chefs and their teams decorate their space to vie for best decorated, for People’s Choice Award and for cash prizes for best chili.

This event also is great for kids who will enjoy a bounce house, costume contests and more. For adults, Bay 13 will provide beer that will go well with the chili samples and other food available. Visit chilichillin.com for all the information. Proceeds will benefit the many charities RCCG supports in our community and beyond.

Oct. 29 is a big day for many. During the day Paws4You will hold its annual Howl-O-Ween at Pinecrest Gardens with a variety of fun activities for pets and their people while that same evening the Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s will have its annual Halloween party… seriously the best party in town.

Guests will don their favorite costumes to compete for prizes while dancing to the music of celebrity DJ Germain with an open bar and great food. Tickets are $100 with proceeds benefiting the club’s free children’s dental clinic. More on that next time.

Until next time, keep making each day count and share an act of kindness every day.
