Weather-related events certainly have upended many activities this fall leaving a busier than ever calendar and additional events to help with relief efforts.
Most recently, the Coral Gables Woman’s Club shared partial proceeds from its Oct. 22 Gringo Bingo with hurricane relief efforts. This monthly event had moved from Bay 13 to Grand Living (formerly The Watermark Senior Living at 363 Granello Ave., Coral Gables) for that fundraiser and will be there for the Nov. 19 event.
Tickets are $35 and include one drink ticket, flatbreads, 13 game cards, music by DJ Germain with Steven Bradley as emcee, and great prizes including lots of great packages for bowling and karaoke from Kings Bowl in Doral. The check-in begins at 6:30 p.m.

On Dec. 10, the event moves to Birdie Bistro (formerly Burger Bob’s on the Granada Golf Course). This will be a great time to check out the newly renovated restaurant and congratulate Rita Tennyson on her restaurant that will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. More on that event and their grand opening soon.
The Rotary Club of Coral Gables (RCCG) is raising funds for many worthy causes. The next event is a Veterans Day fundraiser on Nov. 10, 5-9 p.m., at the Coral Gables Cinema, coordinated by Sally Baumgartner to benefit programs at the Miami VA Hospital where the club does monthly bingo games.
On Nov. 10, the club will present a event featuring the award-winning film, Searching for HOME-Coming Back from War by Eric Christiansen. Tickets are $100 per person and include live music, open bar, lite theater bites and the featured movie.

Yet another event that deserves mention is the 200 Club of Greater Miami’s semi-annual dinner at the Riviera Country Club on Oct. 8. While the usual group of police and fire chiefs were unable to attend with Hurricane Milton on the way, they were able to hold the affair before future events for other organizations were postponed that week. For those not in the know, the 200 Club of Greater Miami Inc. was founded in 1968 by Ben Benjamin, Ben C. McGahey, Samuel J. Powers Jr., Ralph Renick and Don Shoemaker with the intent of helping the families of law enforcement officers and firefighters when they have lost their lives in the line of duty. Since its inception, the 200 Club has made benefit payments and contributions of more than $1 million.
After a welcome by Ann Pierce Stith and business reports, guests enjoyed a sumptuous dinner concluding with the featured speakers who are always a big draw and this year was no different. Tom Frosch, who led the U.S. Navy Blue Angels for three seasons as flight leader and commanding officer until 2015, joined Ryan Chamberlain who served the Blue Angels as the narrator, opposing solo and lead pilot, traveling the country to showcase Naval Aviation to hundreds of thousands of spectators.
Platinum sponsors for the affair were Michael and Julie Weiser, Scott and Helena Weiser.
Among other sponsors and donors enjoying the speeches and the video’s complementing the presentation were Ed and Carol Williamson, Dan and Trish Bell, Chris Ball, Don Slesnick, Bruce Bounds, Jerome Kavulich, Lynn Bauer, Hall Wanless, Robin and Susan Shelly, Margarita Tonkinson, Peter Bermont, Bill Gautier Jr., Eddie Snow, Mary Snow, Michael Green, Grant Souviron, Nancy Morgan, and Phil Lyons.
Coral Gables Woman’s Club reports that their planned free family friendly Halloween Party has been canceled. With so many other great city events, CGWC’s Education Chair Saesha Tennyson and club president Arely Ruiz decided to cancel and direct their support to others.
The club’s Haunted Halloween Playlist Party was on schedule for Oct. 25. More on that next time.
Until next time, share your time and talents, count your blessings, and make a difference.
