For those not familiar with ASHFN, it was founded 22 years ago by Nick Silverio who works 24/7 at no salary to help mothers and expectant mothers in crisis. Recently, they welcomed the 370th baby that was lawfully left in the arms of caring firefighters at a Florida Fire Station. Firefighters ensured both mother and the baby were healthy, and mother was offered additional support and resources with her identity protected as the law allows. That healthy baby was delivered to a local hospital and was placed for adoption with a loving forever family.

Don’t forget to reserve your spot for Coral Gables Woman’s Club (CGWC) Centennial Mother’s Day Tea on Saturday, May 13, 1 – 4 p.m. This 4th annual tea is always a lavish affair you will not want to miss. Event Chair Rita Tennyson promises a spectacular afternoon of food, entertainment, and bubbly with an opportunity to shop for that perfect gift for mom. Guests will enjoy a “Sip and Shop” with lots of great gift items for purchase, entertainment by Frost School of Music’s Purslane Trio, food, tea and unlimited bubbly. This is a perfect way to celebrate with your daughters, moms, friends, and family and all for a great cause, Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s Children’s Dental Clinic. This clinic provides well over $200,000 in free dental services annually to children of the working poor. Tickets are $125 for adults and may be purchased on Eventbrite. To reserve, go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/590175680347.

Doral’s own Steven Bradley, and this writer orchestrated yet another Gringo Bingo fundraiser at Steven’s Clutch Burger Restaurant raising almost $900 for Coral Gables Woman’s Club charities despite countywide street flooding that certainly reduced the numbers. A hearty group, including sponsors Lynn Bauer, Jerry Kavulich and Dr. Hal Wanless, managed to gather for another fun night of bingo and music with several news faces as well.

In other non-profit news, on April 16, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority held a Groovin’ in the Gables Scholarship Brunch for the Pearls of Hope Foundation, Inc. to fund its scholarship and mentorship programs. The affair was chaired by Rochelle Adger with Kristina Jackson as her Co-Chair. The event featured an internationally acclaimed Red House Duo playing the best jazz, R & B and neo soul. Both Adger and Jackson as well as Pearls of Hope Foundation Chair, Ann Pope, were recently guests on Gloria’s Gab LIVE to talk about the event and their mission. Finally, Rotary Club of Coral Gables members and guests gathered at the offices of Community Newspapers for a party celebrating 5th Friday in March. Past RRCG President Sally Baumgartner coordinates this event whenever there are 5 Fridays in a month and members take turns providing the venue. 30 or more people enjoyed the evening and had a chance to meet Publisher Michael Miller and tour the offices and video production studios.

Among the many attending were RCCG Past Presidents: Carlos Bolado with wife Terri, Nicolas Eterovic, David Mitchell, Greg Martini Yolanda Woodbridge, and Walter Alvarez.

Among other were RCCG Treasurer Bill Quesenberry with fiancée Chie Hoban, Aaron Glasser with Leslie, Lina Pinzon and mother Gloria, Larry Goodman, Henryka Manes, and Elisabetta Bell, to mention a few.

Until next time, share your talents, count your blessings and not your challenges and make a difference.
